LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Police say a Louisville man caused quite a disturbance and had to be tased after he stole one pint of Prairie Farms chocolate ice cream. It happened at the Value Mart near the intersection of Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue, just after 4:30 Monday afternoon.

Police say they were called there after store employees said a man had just stolen merchandise from the store.

Officers later stopped 59-year-old Donald Doran, who was walking near the intersection of Bardstown Road and Patterson Avenue. When confronted about the alleged theft, Doran allegedly threw his belongings on the ground, “took a bladed, fighting stance,” and started moving aggressively toward the officer.

That’s when the officer drew a taser. Police say Doran ran away, with the officer in close pursuit. Eventually, the officer tased Doran, but the taser was ineffective. Doran then began to fight the officer, according to the arrest report.

Several vehicles swerved around Doran, police say, and the disturbance caused “panic and alarm” to people walking on the sidewalk. Eventually, officers were able to subdue Doran and place him in handcuffs. They were also able to find the merchandise Doran allegedly stole: one pint of Prairie Farms chocolate ice cream.

Doran was charged with assault, fleeing and evading police, menacing, resisting arrest, shoplifting and disorderly conduct, according to an arrest report.
