The Osogbo Senior Magistrates Court on Wednesday sentenced 25-year-old Fatai Samotu to two years imprisonment for stealing yoghurt, valued at N350 [US $2.15]. Samotu, who was dragged before the court was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to charges of stealing and unlawful entry.

The offences, the Police Prosecutor, Mr. Joshua Oladoye, said were committed on November 20 at Omo-West and Balogun areas of Osogbo, where Samotu stole the yoghurt and two telephone handsets.

“Samotu entered the house of one Kabiru Anibaba through the window with the aid of a long stick and took away one yoghurt valued at N350 and one GSM handset valued N4,500. He proceeded into the house of one Adebayo Adeyeye using the same trick and stole another GSM handset valued N3,500. The offences are punishable under Sections 412 and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun 2003, the police officer informed the court.

The Counsel to the convict, Mr. Amechi Ugwu, pleaded for leniency on behalf of his client before Senior Magistrate Olusola Aluko, convicted and sentenced Samotu to two years imprisonment, on each of the three count-charge.

The court, however, gave the convict an option of N15,000 fine [US $92.34]. Aluko said, ‘The convict is, however, given an option of N5, 000 on each of the three charges, sentence is concurrent while the fine is cumulative.’

Early Morning McDonald’s Menu Changeover Prompts Woman’s Fast Food Flipout

When Shanaya Edgell arrived early yesterday morning at a McDonald’s in Janesville, Wisconsin, she was expecting to order from the fast food joint’s regular menu–Big Macs, french fries, Chicken McNuggets, and the like.

Except it was around 3 AM and the restaurant had already switched over to its breakfast menu–hash browns, Egg McMuffins, hotcakes, and the like. This enraged Edgell, according to Janesville Police Department officers, since she wanted a cheeseburger.

The 22-year-old–for some unexplained reason–turned on her boyfriend, biting him on the arm and tearing off his shirt. Darrell Page, 40, explained to a cop that Edgell “wanted a burger from McDonald’s,” so they drove to the restaurant–only to discover at the drive-thru window that the eatery “had stopped serving hamburgers and was now only serving breakfast.” Edgell, he added, “got upset because she did not want breakfast and only wanted a cheeseburger.”

After driving away, Edgell apparently changed her mind, and directed Page to “return to McDonald’s so that she could get breakfast,” according to a misdemeanor criminal complaint filed in Circuit Court. At this point, Edgell allegedly began striking Page in the face and biting his right arm. Page also told police that when he pulled his car over during the assault, Edgell got out of the vehicle and climbed atop the hood to keep him from leaving.

During police questioning, Edgell confirmed that she became “upset” after discovering that McDonald’s had “switched over to the breakfast menu and…she wanted to order food off the regular menu.” She reported “freaking out over this,” adding that Page was trying to calm her down over the matter of the unavailable cheeseburgers.

When a cop asked why he had spotted her on the car’s roof, Edgell answered, “because I was acting crazy.” After dismounting from the vehicle, Edgell was collared for disorderly conduct.

Edgell is being held in the Rock County jail in lieu of $150 bond. She is scheduled for a court appearance later this afternoon.

Meet Joseph Bartorillo.

The Pennsylvania man, 60, pleaded guilty yesterday to a felony tampering charge for injecting his semen into the yogurt containers of two female co-workers at a Procter & Gamble plant.

A plea deal struck with federal prosecutors calls for Bartorillo to be sentenced to two years in prison for the tampering, which occurred on 13 occasions over a 10-month period ending earlier this year.

U.S. District Court records do not reveal Bartorillo’s motive for defiling the yogurt containers. Pictured in the above mug shot, Bartorillo has been ordered to undergo mental health treatment as part of the conditions of his pretrial release.
